The United Kingdom's club scene is a wild tempestuous thing, which resists all attempts to tame it.
"British" may be an outmoded term, with many residents of these Isles preferring to describe themselves according to their national grouping. But a common bond links the English, Welsh, Scots and the Irish - soul. Whether drinking, singing, fighting or having it till dawn, there's an intensity to the recreation of the Brits.
And the party is increasingly a cosmopolitan affair. The Empire is no more - the invasions of yesteryear have been reversed. London is now a target for hedonistic youth not only from Europe but the world over. Other centres in the UK attract their share of visitors and permanent party migrants.
Like any healthy music scene, there is an obsession with new sounds and technology. House, trance, drum'n'bass, breaks, indie, pop, techno, electro, hip hop, r'n'b, garage and countless other genres and sub-genres have arrived, survived and mutated.
Whatever your tipple, it's easy to find a room of like-minded souls. As always, follow your ears. The internet's pretty useful too.
